An anonymous hacker group has announced that they successfully breached the servers of Mikord, the tech company allegedly building Russia's new digital military mobilization and registry database. Claiming to have maintained persistence in the company's systems for months and wiped a portion of the infrastructure, the threat actors handed over the exfiltrated source code, financial records, and internal communications to Russian anti-war human rights groups.

Following the cyberattack, the company's website remained offline for days. A company executive admitted that their systems had been compromised but declined to comment on the alleged connection to the military project. Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense categorically denied the claims, stating that the military registry system is operating normally and that, despite being continuously targeted, no data breach has occurred.
Designed to replace the cumbersome, Soviet-era paper record system and streamline conscription processes, this massive database holds highly detailed personal information of citizens. It is highly noteworthy that this incident occurred shortly after similar cyberattacks launched by Russian threat actors against Ukraine's state systems and digital military applications.
Some of the precautions we need to take to protect against these types of attacks include:
Do not open emails from untrusted sources.
Use multi-factor authentication (MFA).
Keep your system updated to the latest version at all times.
Monitor login logs regularly.
Track the security of mobile devices.
