There is a need to be aware of this issue to protect personal data, financial data and digital assets. So, what can be done to ensure Personal Cyber Security? In this article, how to ensure Personal Cyber Security? We answer the question and look at what can be done in this regard. Here is what you need to know to ensure Personal Cyber Security:

Strong and Unique Password

Use strong, unique and complex passwords for your accounts. Use password generator software to create unique passwords that are at least 12 characters long and contain upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols.

Multi-Factor Authentication

You need to use Multi-Factor Authentication (2FA or MFA). Multi-Factor Authentication methods are typically used through an SMS code that will arrive on your phone, verification by email, or through an authentication app.

Up-to-date Software and App

If the operating system, browser and applications on your devices are outdated, you may be vulnerable to potential cyber attacks. Because cyber attackers take advantage of discovered cyber security vulnerabilities and if the software you use is outdated, they exploit this vulnerability because the vulnerabilities have not been closed.

Suspicious Connection and E-Mail

A common method is phishing scams. This type of attack aims to get you to click on a bait link or view an email that contains malicious code. It is important to be aware of this and avoid clicking on suspicious links or viewing emails whose sender is unknown and suspicious. Pay attention to the security certificates on websites and whether the web address starts with “https://” or not.

Antivirus and Firewall

Your devices should have protection software such as antivirus and firewall. This software, which helps protect your computer, tablet and smartphone from viruses, spyware and other online threats, should be kept up to date. Available in paid or free versions, this software can let you know if a link you accidentally click on is unsafe, thus protecting you from cyber traps.

Unknown Wi-Fi Networks

When we need to connect to the internet when we are out and about, for example in a café or restaurant, we ask for the Wi-Fi password. But how trustworthy are these networks? Better not. They can be used for nefarious purposes and your communications can be monitored through traps that can be set up on these networks. Do not use public Wi-Fi networks unless absolutely necessary. Do not perform sensitive transactions such as internet banking, cryptocurrency accounts and e-Government over these networks.

Regular Backup

To avoid data loss due to cyber attacks or other reasons, you need to get into the habit of backing up. Regularly back up all your devices and important data on these devices.

Social Media

Although social media is an indispensable communication tool today, be careful not to share your personal information in this environment. Avoid sharing sensitive information such as address, location, phone number, date of birth, Turkish ID number, credit card number, social security number.
