It is thought that the payroll data of more than 100,000 personnel working at many companies, including the BBC and British Airways, may have been stolen.

A cybercrime group presumed to be headquartered in Russia has issued an ultimatum to companies exposed to a cyberattack. The group, called Clop, warned company personnel affected by the cyberattack to respond to their emails from June 14. He reported that the group would otherwise release data stolen from these individuals.

"We would like to inform companies using the Progress MOVEit product that we may have downloaded most of your data using an illegal software vulnerability," the BBC said in a statement.

Some of the measures we need to take to protect ourselves from such attacks are as follows;

  • Files should not be downloaded from unsafe links,

  • Advanced security products should be used,

  • Your system should always be updated with the latest version,

  • All potential business and personal accounts should use multi-factor authentication (MFA).
