Recently, the Global Pravasi Rishta Portal, the platform for connecting with India's overseas population, leaked sensitive data, including names and passport details.
The Cybernews research team has been warned that the Global Pravasi Rishta Portal has leaked sensitive user data. The platform disclosed their username, surname, country of residence and email address, as well as their occupation, phone and passport numbers. The leak was possible due to poor security measures, such as the lack of authentication methods.
The portal is designed as a tool for communication between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indian Missions and the Indian diaspora. Pravasi Rishta means “immigrant relations” in English. The data was disclosed via the website and the public became aware of it.

Some of the measures we need to take to protect ourselves from such attacks;
If your web applications contain sensitive data, they should be protected with products that will take security measures accordingly.
Use dual authentication for sensitive data access.
If your sensitive data is on user machines, it should be protected with disk encryption and data leakage prevention software.
Provide awareness training to end users against such incidents.
