A Growing Threat with New Exploits and Capabilities: Zerobot Botnet

The Zerobot DDoS botnet has received major updates that expand its ability to target more internet-connected devices and scale its network.

Originally documented by Fortinet FortiGuard Labs, Zerobot: A Go-based malware that spreads through web applications, routers, cameras, IoT devices.

“The latest release of Zerobot includes additional capabilities such as exploiting vulnerabilities in Apache and Apache Spark (CVE-2021-42013 and CVE-2022-33891, respectively) and new DDoS attack capabilities,” Microsoft researchers explained.

Some of the measures we should take;

• Use a security solution that can protect you from phishing scams and malware on all your devices,

• Make sure your devices are up to date,

• Activate Anti-DDos hardware and software modules,

• Close or filter unused ports,

• Pay attention to user awareness trainings in your institution.
