Greece's Gas Giant is Targeted by the Ransom Gang!

Greece's natural gas transmission company says it has been attacked by ransomware. DESFA, one of the gas distribution networks of Greece, admitted that they experienced data leakage due to the attack.

"Cyber threat actors tried to infiltrate their networks, but IT teams quickly responded," DESFA management said in a statement on Wednesday. Although the incident was intervened, it was announced that some files and data were leaked.

After the incident, the company closed many of its online services to protect its customers and continue its operations as normal, and stated that they are continuing their restoration work carefully. Stating that the said leak will not affect the gas supply, the company stated that the operation will continue in its natural state.

Explaining that they are working with law enforcement, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Energy and Environment after the attack, DESFA stated that they are working to minimize possible damages.

In addition, the company, which refused to contact the cyber threat actors, stated that they would not pay the ransom.

Some of the measures we need to take are;

  • Make sure your devices are up to date,

  • Take care to use a Two-Factor Authentication system,

  • Use advanced security products,

  • Pay attention to user awareness trainings in your institution.
