Riot Games Hacked!

Updated: Mar 3, 2023

Riot Games, known as the producer of the League of Legends game, was attacked by hackers. Hackers demanded $10M from Riot Games to stop the leak of "League of Legends" source code.

Riot Games company received a ransom note from attackers threatening to release the source code of 'League of Legends'. In this note, the attacker reported that he requested a $10,000,000 swap to settle with the company.

Riot Games first announced the news of this compromise on social media in a tweet last week, saying that this attack was a 'Social Engineering Attack' and there was no indication that user data was affected.

Social engineering is one of the most used cyber attack methods. Its purpose is to manipulate and deceive the target person and obtain sensitive information from them.

Some of the measures we need to take to protect ourselves from such attacks are as follows;

  • Do not download files from unsafe links,

  • Use advanced security products,

  • Do not visit unsafe websites,

  • Inquire about the communication language of the people who contact you and the sensitivity of the requested information.
